Programmer - USB programmer for Atmel AVR controllers (USBasp) 1 Comment One of simple design that most wanted by microcontroller player nowdays especially students. It is a USB in-circuit programmer for Atmel AVR controllers. It simply consists of an ATMega48 or an ATMega8 and a couple of passive components. The programmer uses a firmware-only USB driver. No special USB controller is needed. Categories: Programmer Recommended Project Continue reading

Tutorial 11 - Using the AVR Analog-Digital Converter 2 Comments This tutorial will show on how to do an analog-digital conversion with AVR microcontroller. AVR will receive data from the it's serial port. Categories: Recommended Project Tutorial Continue reading
Recommended Project 9 - Inertial GPS with an ATMega 128 1 Comment This project was conducted by the student of Cornell University. This project's goal is to determine the user's position with a commercial GPS system aided by MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes. The additional MEMS sensors allow for prediction of the user's movement in between and in absence of the absolute GPS updates. Categories: ATmega128 GPS System Recommended Project Continue reading
Recommended Project 7 - AVR Thermostat Leave a Reply This thermostat is built around an ATMega164P and a TC1047A temperature sensor. It controls your furnace and air conditioner. It is not programmable, although it has a clock and is capable if some additional code were written. The unique feature is used of single rotary encoder, for a very simple user interface.Details can be found HERE Categories: ATmega164 Recommended Project Continue reading
Tutorial 9 - Example using the two-wire interface (TWI) Leave a Reply The two-wire interface consists of two signal lines named SDA (serial data) and SCL (serial clock). All devices participating in the bus are connected together. The pullups must be small enough to recharge the line capacity in short enough time compared to the desired maximal clock frequency. Details can be found HERE Categories: Recommended Project Tutorial Continue reading
Recommended Project 6 - ATmega 128 Prototyping Board 2 Comments Uses 64-pin ATmega128/1281/2561. USB-serial interface via FTDI FT232RL.Selectable power (USB/External/VTarget, external could be 5V or 3.3V). Selectable clock source (crystal or clock from FT232RL). All ports are avaiable at pinheaders. Direct interface to GU300 Graphical VFD's. Port D, E & F are laid out identical to the STK500. Port A, C & G are in a single header, making it possible for future memory expansion. Details can be found HERE Categories: ATmega128 Recommended Project Continue reading
Recommended Project 5 - simple vga/video adapter Leave a Reply Owner of this site wanted a design that would be capable of displaying at least 15x15 characters on a VGA monitor using standard VGA frequencies. The data itself is to be received by the microcontroller via its USART port. All using a 16 Mhz clock for the AVR. Details can be found HERE Categories: Recommended Project Continue reading
Recommended Project 4 - Miniature Real-time Controller Leave a Reply The circuit uses only three chips, a 89C2051, DS275(or MAX232), and 74LS07 open collector driver. The scheduler for time on/off of 6-channel output can be made by downloading from PC and saved into onchip RAM. Each output provides a 20mA sinking suitable for driving a homemade opto-triac or big solid-state relay for heavy load. Categories: Recommended Project Continue reading
Recommended Project 3 - LCD-Clock Leave a Reply This is yet another DIY clock. An Atmel AVR controller is used to drive a text-mode LCD to show the time in big letters. The letters are drawn with user-defined characters. The AVR's main clock is the internal R/C-oscillator. The code is written in C using avr-gcc with the avr-libc.
